Gastrointestinal Disorders
We specialize in gastrointestinal (GI) disorders and provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to identify food triggers, manage symptoms, and restore gut health. A focused 3-4 session approach supports clients from identification and elimination of triggers to creation of a personalized, long-term liberalization of diet and symptoms management.
We treat gastrointestinal disorders, including:
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)/Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
- Chronic Constipation
- Celiac Disease
- Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE)
- Food allergies
- Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)
What to expect from sessions with our dietitians (RDs) as part of Medical Nutrition Therapy Treatment. Please note that for most MNT clients, 3-4 sessions are sufficient:
Session 1: Comprehensive Assessment
Comprehensive assessment tailored to specific gastrointestinal (GI) needs:
We review information such as medical history, current GI symptoms, dietary intake, lifestyle, and existing lab work. Our RD then provides an initial education on the GI condition (e.g., IBS, IBD, SIBO) that includes identification of trigger foods and introduction to gut health foods.
Session 2: Evaluation of Symptoms/Adjustment
Evaluation of symptoms/adjustment of food to maintain symptom relief
We provide ongoing intensive education on the practical application of the diet (e.g., meal planning, label reading, dining out) and addressing any challenges or misconceptions. This session refines the core intervention plan.
Sessions 3 and 4: Long-term Management
Liberalize your diet and monitor triggers for long-term management
With the client, we develop a plan to maintain long-term symptom relief, including reintroduction of trigger foods (to the extent possible). We continue to tailor the nutrition needs to allow for a sustainable eating pattern and support the transition to long-term gut health-promoting behaviors. Lastly, we develop a final “blueprint” for self-management including a plan for navigating stress, flare-ups, travel, and social eating. This session provides the tools for the client to confidently manage their condition independently.
Our Philosophy
We believe in individualized, unique support for different ages and stages of life.
For children and adolescents, we focus on supporting healthy growth and development alongside nutritional symptom relief and building a healthy gut.
For adults, our focus shifts to self-management, intuitive eating principles, and addressing the specific challenges of maintaining long-term management of GI symptoms within an adult lifestyle (e.g., work, social life, independent living).
Our approach is a weight inclusive approach that prioritizes health and well-being without emphasizing weight to help improve diet and exercise-related health behaviors. This approach differs from the traditional weight-centric model.
